Sometimes depending on luck, you can get frozen cranberries when fresh cranberries are out of season. In the cranberry season buy some extra cranberries and freeze them for the upcoming months when cranberries are not available, I do the same. Cranberries can be stored for six months in zip top freezer bags.

Of course, fresh and frozen cranberries are needed. For toppings you will be needing unsalted butter and flour. Oates and freshly ground nutmegs are required. Salt is added for flavor.

How To Make Apple Cranberry Crisp

Firstly, make the filling by placing peeled and cored apples and cranberries in a bowl. Then, add brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour, and cinnamon. Next, toss to coat. After that, spread the mixture in a baking dish. Meanwhile, make the topping by adding flour, brown sugar, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg and oats in a bowl. Stir in melted butter until it is incorporated. Then, crumble topping evenly over the prepared filling. Bake until the fruit is bubbled and the topping is golden brown. Lastly, let it cool.  

Make-Ahead Tips

You can make the crisp the night before and before serving reheat in the oven. Also, mix together the filling and topping in a separate bowl. You can refrigerate it overnight.

  • ¾ cup  cranberries
  • teaspoon  ground nutmeg
  • pounds  Granny Smith apples – peeled, cored and thinly sliced
  • ¼ cup   white sugar
  • tablespoon  ground cinnamon


  • cup   all-purpose flour
  • ½  cup  chopped pecans
  • cup   quick-cooking oats
  • ½  cup  packed light brown sugar
  • ¼  cup  butter, cut into pieces


  • First,preheat the oven to 190 degrees C. Grease the baking dish.
  • In the next step,add apples, cranberries, white sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in another bowl. Place a layer  in the prepared baking dish.
  • The bowl of ingredients in the second step put in oats, flour, and brown sugar for topping in the same bowl. Add butter and mix .Mix in pecans. Put the topping over the apples in the baking dish.
  • Bake the mixture in the preheated oven until the apples are tender and get a golden brown colour for 40 to 50 minutes.
