  • teaspoons  baking powder
  • ½  teaspoon  ground nutmeg
  • 2 ¼ cups   cake flour
  • ¾ teaspoon   kosher salt
  • ¼  teaspoon  ground cinnamon
  • ⅔  cup  sour cream, room temperature
  • ½ cup   granulated sugar
  • large  egg yolks, room temperature
  • tablespoon  unsalted butter and melted
  • tablespoon  vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon  vanilla extract
  • vegetable oil as needed for frying

Upper Glaze:

  • ½  cup  unsalted butter, melted
  • tablespoons  hot water
  • 4 ½ cups   powdered sugar
  • 1 ½  teaspoons  light corn syrup
  • ¼  teaspoon  kosher salt
  • ¼  teaspoon  vanilla extract


  • Whisk flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a bowl until they are fully mixed together.
  • Take a large bowl and beat sour cream, granulated sugar, egg yolks, melted butter, oil, and vanilla until it is completely combined.
  •  Slowly fold flour mixture in a sour cream mixture until they are combined and dough will be soft and sticky.
  • Cover it in the refrigerator until the dough is cold and firmed for 2 hours.
  • Turn dough out on a heavy-floured surface, flouring hands or rolling pin is needed. Cut dough using a round cutter. Then you should cut the holes in the center of the dough circles with a round cutter. After that, transfer the rings made of dough to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Reroll, cut dough scraps and repeat the process.
  • Heat oil in the oven over medium heat.
  •  After that, fry 1-2 donuts at a time until they turn golden brown.
  • Transfer donuts to a baking sheet using a strainer. Drain and cool.
  • Whisk powdered sugar, melted butter, hot water, corn syrup, salt, and vanilla in a bowl for the glaze until it gets smooth and well combined.
  • Then you should use a spoon to coat the donut completely in the glaze prepared.
  • Using two forks placed underneath, remove donut from glaze, then transfer donut to a wire rack placed over a baking sheet. Repeat it with remaining donuts and glaze.
  • Let the donut stand until glaze is set before serving. The leftover can be stored in room temperature in a container.
